Ester Dean serves as a producer on the new NBC musical competition series “Songland.”
Dean is a Grammy Award-nominated songwriter, record producer, singer and actress. As one of the music industry’s most in-demand and sought-after hitmakers, she has written and produced numerous hits such as “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Rude Boy” by Rihanna, “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj, “Mr. Know It All” by Kelly Clarkson, and “Come & Get It” by Selena Gomez.
Dubbed “The Song Machine” by The New Yorker, Dean has continuously delivered hit after hit, sending countless artists to #1. At the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, Dean was nominated for Album of the Year for Rihanna’s “Loud,” featuring smash singles such as “What’s My Name?” and “S&M,” written by Dean.
In 2015, she released her own original music with an R&B/Soul EP titled “Miss Ester Dean.”
The multi-talented artist has touched nearly every area of the entertainment industry. She broke into film with the animated comedy “Rio,” in which she sang both “Let Me Take You to Rio” and “Take You to Rio. Lending her voice in other ways, Dean voiced Sloth Siren in the hit film “Ice Age: Continental Drift” in addition to writing the title song, “We Are.”
In 2012, Dean brought her talents in front of the camera, and began her acting career in “Pitch Perfect.” In the role of Cynthia-Rose Adams, Dean starred and sang in all three films in the franchise.
