Telemundo and Somos Productions will produce the fifth annual “Latin American Music Awards” (Latin AMAs), paying tribute to today’s most influential and iconic Latin artists, as voted by the fans in the tradition of the “American Music Awards,” the world’s largest fan-voted award show. The three-hour special will showcase performances by artists in English and Spanish, because music transcends language. The program will broadcast live from the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 8pm/7c, preceded by a one-hour red carpet pre-show “La Alfombra de Latin AMAs” at 7pm/6c.

The “Latin AMAs” honors artists in the genres of Pop, Urban, Regional Mexican, and Tropical, as well as categories for Favorite Crossover Artist, New Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, among others. The 2019 “Latin AMAs” nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including sales, airplay, streaming and social activity tracked by Billboard through its data partners Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound for data covering the periods of Aug 10, 2018 through July 25, 2019. The selection of the Favorite Video category is based on videos submitted by record labels and independent producers and selected by a committee of industry professionals. This “producers’ choice award” considers the quality, content, and creativity of the music video. The winner will be chosen by the fans along with the rest of the Latin AMAs.

Created in 1973 by Dick Clark, the “American Music Awards” is one of the biggest music award shows in the world, watched in more than 200 countries. Telemundo’s “Latin AMAs” is quickly accumulating its own popularity. Last year’s show celebrated women in music and was hosted by a formidable group of women including Aracely Arambula, Becky G, Gloria Trevi, Lesley Grace and Roselyn Sanchez. The show which featured electrifying performances by popular Spanish-language and English-language artists among Latinos like Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Prince Royce, Ludacris, Maluma and Flo Rida, reached a cumulative audience of 4.8 Million total viewers and 2.2 Million adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. On social media, the awards ranked as the #1 most social program of the day across all broadcast and cable networks yesterday, according to Nielsen Social.

Fans from the United States and Puerto Rico will be able to vote for their favorite artists through a process that will be powered by Telescope Inc. (“The Voice,” “American Idol,” “X-Factor”), the market leader in audience participation and consumer engagement for live television.
