Ozuna, Romeo Santos, Sebastian Yatra, Christian Nodal, CNCO, Cardi B, Selena Gómez and DJ Snake were among the top winners during the star-studded award ceremony, that took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California
Los Angeles, 17 October 2019 – In an evening filled with memorable moments, spectacular performances and magical collaborations, Telemundo’s fifth edition of the "Latin American Music Awards" were presented to today's most influential and iconic Latin artists, as voted by the fans in the tradition of the “American Music Awards,” the world’s largest fan-voted award show.
During the ceremony that took place at the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, Puerto Rican Latin Trap singer, Anuel AA, became the top winner with five awards, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Favorite Album, Urban for Real Hasta la Muerte, Favorite Artist, Male and Favorite Artist, Urban. Following him, with two awards were Ozuna, Cardi B, Selena Gómez and Dj Snake, for Song of the Year and Favorite Song, thanks to their successful collaboration “Taki Taki;” Romeo Santos for Favorite Artist – Tropical and Favorite Album –Tropical for Utopía; Sebastian Yatra for Favorite Song “Ya No Tiene Novio” and Favorite Album - Pop for Fantasía; Christian Nodal for Favorite Artist - Regional Mexican and Favorite Song – Regional Mexican for “No Te Contaron Mal” and CNCO for Favorite Duo or Group and Favorite Artist - Pop.
Produced by Telemundo and Somos Productions, the evening began with the glamorous arrival of the stars to "La Alfombra de Latin AMAs," laid out along the iconic Hollywood Boulevard, where dozens of artists and celebrities wore their favorite designer looks for a special evening that paid tribute to salsa music icon Marc Anthony, honored with the Latin AMAs International Artist Award of Excellence, in addition to Favorite Tropical Song with “Adicto”; while Mexican-American singer and actress, Becky G, was recognized with the Extraordinary Evolution Award and the Favorite Artist - Female award.
Recipients of single awards included Drake for Favorite Artist – Crossover; Luis Miguel for Favorite Tour; Lunay for New Artist of the Year; Mau y Ricky for Favorite Song - Pop for “Ya No Tiene Novio;” Prince Royce for Favorite Song - Tropical for “Adicto;” Raymix for Favorite Album - Regional Mexican for Oye Mujer and Sofía Reyes, Anitta and Rita Ora took the Favorite Video award for their collaboration on “RIP.”
Farruko and Jason Derulo opened the show with "Mamacita," giving way to Mexican artist Sofía Reyes who sang her multilingual empowerment anthem “RIP.” The King of Bachata, Romeo Santos surprised audiences with the television premiere of "El Beso Que No Le Di" featuring Dominican Bachata artist Kiko Rodríguez, while Marc Anthony granted one of the ceremony’s most emotional moments when he dedicated his award to the recently deceased Prince of Song José José, interpreting “Almohada” as a special tribute.
Regional Mexican group Banda los Sebastianes performed “A Través Del Vaso,” while renowned duo Wisin & Yandel presented their world premiere of “Chica Bombastic.” Becky G performed a medley including “Becky From The Block,” “Mayores,” “Sin Pijama,” and “Mala Santa,” which was followed by a performance by Daddy Yankee singing the hit “Que Tire Palante.” Regional Mexican singer Christian Nodal interpreted a medley with “De Los Besos Que Te Di,” as well as a new collaboration with Colombian reggaeton stars Piso 21 “Pa’ Olvidarme de Ella,” which was followed by a performance of “Destino” by Greeicy and Nacho.
Marc Anthony presented his electrifying television debut of "Lo Que Te Di," followed by Beret and his hit “Lo Siento” alongside Sofia Reyes. In another unforgettable moment, Puerto Ricans Farruko, Justin Quiles and Zion & Lenox sang the Puerto Rican classic “Borinquen Bella,” while reggaeton artist Ozuna got everyone on their feet with a medley of his hits “Taki taki” and “Baila Baila Baila.” Gente de Zona and Silvestre Dangond followed with “El Mentiroso”; while Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Lenier and El Micha performed “Me Quedaré Contigo.” Becky G returned to the stage to sing her urban hit “Dollar” alongside Myke Towers, which was followed by a collaboration between CNCO and Abraham Mateo “Me Vuelvo Loco” and the debut of CNCO’s first composition “Ya Tú Sabes.” The show came to a spectacular close with Anuel AA, Ozuna and Daddy Yankee performing “China.”
